Fear Free

Fear Free is a concept of practicing medicine that is based on recognizing and taking steps to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress associated with visits to the veterinary hospital. At Paws on Fraser Veterinary Hospital, our doctors are specifically trained and certified in this concept. During the visit we will utilize various techniques to minimize the fear and stress your pet may feel. We also encourage owners to take an active role in this process by providing tips on how to prepare prior to the visit. We welcome clients to bring their pets in for a treat and cuddle with our staff whenever they are passing by so that our pet patients associate our hospital with positive memories.

As a brand new purpose built hospital, we were also able to specifically incorporate fear free concepts into the design of our space.

For our canine patients:

We consciously chose grippy, non-slip flooring with our nervous canine patients in mind. We place non-slip mats on top of all our exam tables to eliminate the stress of having to stand on a shiny slippery surface.

For dogs that prefer to be examined on the floor, all our exam tables flip up and out of the way so we have lots of space to examine a fearful pet on the floor.

For our feline patients:

We know cats feel safer when they are perched up off the ground and do not have to look at other dogs so we have designed elevated spaces for our cat patients in the waiting room.

Our cat and dog patients are housed in different sections when they are in hospital. We designed the kennels so there is no visual contact between the cat and dog kennels.
